CPW vs SINGTEL FC

Sunday 30-03-2008
CPW 2 - 1 Singtel FC
Venue: Pasir Ris Crest Secondary School
Man-of-the-Match: Yazmil

CPW's sixth match of the season. There was a boost of confidence in the team with the return of team captain, Yazmil, who had missed CPW's previous three games. Ridzwan was CPW's goalkeeper due to injury to first-choice keeper, Azmil. The team started strongly against a more experienced side. We controlled the game well. The opponents were attacking through their left which meant that Asyraf, our right-back, had a lot of work to do. A long ball from deep beat CPW's offside trap and the opponent's striker was one-on-one with Ridzwan. Ridzwan fumbled the ball but was saved by Iss whose sliding tackle cleared the ball away. Remi then had a great chance to score after playing one-two with Noman but his effort was too weak. A while later CPW took the lead when Remi's effort from a tight angle went into the goal off the crossbar. CPW had lots of chances to double the advantage. Yusof's shot was way off target. Darwis had a good one-on-one chance but he could not guide the ball into the net. Finally Hanafi continued his fine form by doubling the lead for CPW with a curling freekick from the right edge of the penalty box. First half ended 2-0. There were alot of substitutions in the second half. CPW started to give possession away easily. The opponents took control in the second half and they had many chances. One in particular was an effort by their striker which was tipped away by the fingertips of Ridzwan. The opponents were getting frustrated by our defence superb offside trap. Yazmil had a truly great game and he marshalled the defence well. A loose ball from an in-swinging corner from the opponents was tap in from close range by their players. 2-1 was the score. Remi could have added another goal but his freekick was disallowed by the referee. A sturdy defence was the basis of this hard-earned win.
